The Sugar Apple plant is native to tropical climates in the Americas and the West Indies. It produces green fruits with a thick, scaly rind and a sweet, creamy pulp that comes apart in segments. The flesh of a Sugar Apple fruit is fragrant, sweet, soft, and juicy. It’s often compared to custard in both flavour and texture.
Despite being named an ‘apple’, the outer skin and seeds are actually not edible. Sugar Apple fruit should be eaten by slicing it open and sucking the inner flesh from the seeds.
