Introduction

Melon & Lime – now that’s a refreshing combination which makes the Limelon a popular snack in the sun, but be quick it’s not in season for very long. Initially introduced to specialist British markets in 2012, but with a crop shortage, the melons were only available for three weeks. Fast forward 8 years and Limelon melons were re-introduced to Great Britain through Marks & Spencer in London, but again just a short period.

History

Limelon melons were first cultivated in Taiwan but can now be found growing commercial in Europe in both Spain and the Netherlands.

Regions

Limelon is known to currently grow in Spain, Holland, Costa Rica and Israel.

Flavours & Texture

The limelon is very sought after thanks to its unique flavour which encompasses acidic, zesty, and tangy notes with lime undertones. Often described as a lime and melon cocktail.

Preparation

Cut the melon in half from top to bottom and remove the seeds with a spoon. The seeds are not edible but we recommend putting a few n a pot to see what happens. Cut into slices and remove the skin.
